This very much applies to the thoughts behind “Singing for Greener Tomorrow”, Our vision and mission is to create a platform to generate awareness about our environment and use music as a vehicle to bring communities together. How different could this be, from all the initiatives that the government, non-profits and others have undertaken for the environment?
1. Singing Platform and Green Vision are two different Worlds; our effort is to bridge these two worlds to cross promote the benefits, bringing a fresh perspective to the people (from either population).
2. Music is in the nature; preserving one will help preserve the other.
We have taken a leap of faith and following our heart, similar to what Steve Jobs mentioned. All of us in the starter team come with diverse backgrounds in our professional life and what brought us together was a sense of volunteerism and appreciation of world cultures.
In silicon-valley we have always noticed that different cultures come together within their own communities and there are very few avenues to cross share and learn from each other. We are striving towards breaking those barriers and capitalize on this opportunity of living in a multi cultural environment.
Our environment does not belong to one single culture or a country, but it belongs to the world and for that matter it belongs to every culture and every country. It is our collective responsibility to protect our environment.
Talented bands performing on stage and showcasing their music and culture is a first step towards creating the awareness. We believe that music is probably the only way that can bring communities together and we will be able to get our message across, and soon the goodness will spread to other places of USA or the world for that matter.
We would like to thank you for being part of the process and that starts with you being inquisitive about what we are trying to do at www.singingrecord.com . But this is just the beginning for all of us and just an evening show of music is not the end of our vision.
Nov 4th , 2011 - is the day when we take the ship to water and continue our journey. We want you to be our ambassadors and share the same beliefs that we have. If you are a musician, we want you to succeed in your musical career by showcasing your talent in a multi cultural environment. That’s because, if you succeed, we succeed, since you will carry our vision and share it with others.
We have made arrangements to do the live professional recording (audio) of the show on Nov 4th and plan to launch audio albums, titled “Singing for Greener Tomorrow – Live in Concert Series” and our promise is that all net proceeds from the album download will be given away to charities involved in saving our planet.
We expect people from diverse cultural background to come and attend this event. We would appreciate if you could also spread the message across to all your friends in your community.
We are also working on a pledge that we will provide financial help from our events to non-profits that are partnering with us, since we believe that giving it back to society is the only way we can have our vision fulfilled.
And as Steve Jobs said, “And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. “ – Yes we are following our heart and intuition.
We have a great line up of performers who are respected:
Pura Mezcolanza is a Berkeley-based quintet that serves up a delicious mix of Afro-Cuban son, Brazilian bossa nova, Mexican ranchera, and Latin jazz. The 5 members (Dominic Cabrera, percussion, Michael Crager, piano, Jane Lenoir, flute, Ingrid Rubis, lead vocals, Eugene Warren, bass) move effortlessly between styles, bringing out new colors in each. Listenable and danceable, the group's music is a treat for the ears and the feet!
The Jesse Charles Band is a 5- to 7-piece dance band that has entertained hundreds of satisfied clients and crowds in the San Jose / San Francisco area for over 20 years. She is our future and she took up the challenge to come forward and give her voice for her future and our future - i.e. for our environment. She will be accompanied on the guitar by Sanjay Saxena
SPECIAL SPEAKER We have the great privilege to have Dr. Bill Quirk as our speaker on Nov 4th , Singing for a Greener Tomorrow - World Music Curtain Raiser. He will give a short introductory talk about "Making the Economy Green"- Developments in technology are making the cost of generating wind & solar energy more competitive with fossil fuels, but further technical breakthroughs are needed. When it is hot and California has it's highest electrical demand days, the wind does not blow. There is abundant sun, but solar energy peaks at 2PM and demand peaks 6PM. We will need a variety of technologies to meet this challenge including storage for renewable energy and peaker natural gas plants. Dr. Quirk will discuss the technologies being developed and the policies needed to support their development.
He was an engineering undergraduate at Columbia University, where he was a member of 3 National Champion fencing teams. He earned a PhD in Astrophysics at Columbia at the age of 24, then taught at Caltech, and managed a NASA research team that studied global warming. The ability to reuse plutonium parts led to the shutdown of the Rocky Flats Plant Plutonium Parts plant near Denver, resulting in tens of billions of dollars savings to the US Government and saved nearby Denver from the threat of a nuclear accident.Bill Quirk started taking responsibility early in his life as the oldest of 7 children in an Irish family that lived near Boston, Massachusetts. Bill’s dad was never home, so he became the surrogate father to his younger brothers and sisters. His community volunteer and political work started in College has continued ever since.

SPANDANA, In Aug 2005, a group of like-minded individuals came together to think of ways in which they could be of help to the society. Although, the consensus was to do something in our respective home towns/villages/cities, we were not very sure how to execute. As a start, we responded to support the needy people based on published articles on internet editions of Indian newspapers. Gradually we realized the difficulties of executing the projects in India remotely from USA. This led to exploring the possibility of tie-ups with non-profit organizations both in India and USA to help us in efficient execution of the different projects in our home towns. However, our search resulted in a conclusion that there was no entity with grass roots presence to help us in executing the charitable projects in India and we strongly felt the need to establish an organization withgrassroots in the community
